Spawn was the satanic vision of Jim Satanic, conceived in 1989. His goal was to form a demonic death-thrash band with members of a local crossover group. Together, they wrote and roughly recorded some material, but as time passed, the group disbanded as members pursued other paths. Determined to chase his vision, Jim relocated to Kent, Ohio, in 1993, where he began writing and rehearsing again. It was here that he met Wayne Richards, an ambitious metal guitarist (later of SOULLESS), who would become the driving force behind Spawn’s music. Chris Dora (drummer for SOULLESS and many Cleveland bands) also contributed, and together they wrote the first five songs that would later be released as a split with BLOODSICK on Hells Headbangers in 2002.
By 1995, the band had changed its name to Spawn of Satan to avoid confusion with other groups named Spawn. After a NunSlaughter rehearsal at The Devilโs Den, the satanic influences of the band resurfaced. Jim and Reaper wrote two new songs, reviving ideas from the late ’80s era when Alazomass was involved. It became essential to include Alazomass on lead guitar, bringing the original vision to life. This led to the second release by Spawn of Satan, a split 7โ with EVIL ANGEL in 2008.
Determined to continue, Jim enlisted Reaper to play bass on five more songs, featuring Chris Dora and Wayne Richards. These were recorded around the same time as the BLOODSICK material. In 2012, one of these tracks, “Ritual Murder,” was released on a split 7″ with Sathanas. Tragically, this would be Jim Satanic’s final release before his untimely death.
The remaining unreleased four tracks, embodying Jimโs vision, have now been completed by Noah Buchanan and Tom Shaffner. These final recordings, paired with the original satanic cover art Jim had planned, serve as a metallic testament to Spawn of Satanโs chaos. This collection stands as an emblem to all who embrace the dark legacy of the band.
