Austrian Tolkien-inspired music project founded by Hugin (Alexander Wieser) in the autumn of 1999. Hugin in interviews has described Uruk-Hai as “Battle Ambient” and “Fantasy Ambient Metal”. The project can be considered a pioneer of Tolkien ambient although some of Uruk-Hai’s music tracks contain atmospheric black metal, other metal genres, folk music, dark ambient and experimental sounds. Uruk-Hai also released a unique concept album about the ancient Inca culture (“Tawantinsuyu”, 2006) which is best categorised as ethnic electronica or new age music. Despite Uruk-Hai is mostly inspired by Tolkien’s Middle-Earth, some albums are based on Nordic mythology and other themes include forests and nature. Most Uruk-Hai releases contain no or minimal vocals but there are exceptions (“And All The Magic & Might He Brought…”, 2013).
