HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present a long-overdue reissue of DESTRUKTOR’s debut EP, Brutal Desecration, on 12″ vinyl format.
Long a paragon of that particular brand of gnarly black/death for which Australia first made its name in extreme metal circles, DESTRUKTOR released their debut EP, Brutal Desecration, some five years after forming. Nevertheless, its release in 2002 – as a 7″ on the late/great Decius label – signified and solidified a sea change in the underground: while so many were still fixated on running-on-fumes Scandinavian tropes, there were a handful of ruffians & outlaws Down Under doing the Devil’s work, drawing equal inspiration from Blasphemy, old Teutonic thrash, and early South American madness – and, of course, homeland hooligans Bestial Warlust. Thus is Brutal Desecration a perfect, poignant snapshot of a moment in time both for band and subgenre – ripping, roiling, muscular, malevolent, neither strictly black nor death nor thrash – featuring bestial session drums from ABOMINATOR / CEMETERY URN’s Chris Volcano. And while DESTRUKTOR would start to streamline with 2004’s Nuclear Storm EP for a then-young HELLS HEADBANGERS, Brutal Desecration accomplished its title and then some, serving as a rough & raw foundation for Glenn Destruktor and crew to later perfect their barbaric onslaught.
Out of print for over 20 years, Brutal Desecration at LONG last sees a timely reissue, pressed on a one-side 12″ with a silkscreened B-side. Featuring a bonus track from the same session, which would not fit onto the original 7″, you could argue that this is the definitive version of the EP.
